PLACIDO DOMINGO / ANDREA BOCELLI | Arena Genève

Last night in Geneva felt like a crossover event between Superman and Batman — except instead of saving the world, they came to save music lovers’ hearts. Yes, I’m talking about the living legends Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, united on the same stage in front of over 6,000 people at the Arena of Geneva. Add to this line-up the brilliant voices of Juliana Grigoryan and Varduhi Khachatryan, and you’ve got yourself a night for the books.

What was originally expected to be “just” a concert quickly evolved into a heartfelt celebration of musical legacy. As the minutes passed, the audience wasn’t just treated to arias and duets — we were reminded of how incredibly lucky we are to still witness, in the flesh, two of the most iconic figures not only in opera, but in the entire musical world.

The diversity in the audience was striking. This wasn’t just a crowd of Puccini or Verdi purists — this was a mosaic of music lovers, proof of how far Domingo and Bocelli’s voices reach. Their music transcends genres, languages, and generations.

The two-hour evening flowed gracefully from opera classics to unexpected moments: a little Gianni Schicchi, a touch of Norma, an impassioned Andrea Chénier, and even La fille du régiment sung by Andrea Bocelli (yes, you read that right!). There were also German Lieder, Spanish zarzuela touches, and a jaw-dropping finale: “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” from La Traviata — complete with fireworks — which sent the entire audience into rapturous applause and ended the evening with a thunderous ovation.

I cannot end this review without a heartfelt thank you to the Avetis Association in Geneva, represented by the ever-passionate Arsèn, for making this night possible. From the organization to the atmosphere, everything was impeccably handled, and as always, it was a joy to be part of something so beautifully put together.

Thank you Maestro. Thank you Andrea. And until we meet again…
